Should you try to bake your own wedding cake (or a relative’s wedding cake)?

The question to bake your own wedding cake? When my brother got my married I really wanted to bake his wedding cake. But the way Indian weddings go I didn't have the time to do it. I wish I had. It's the personal touch you can give to a wedding. Take note baking your own wedding cake is not for the faint hearted. But home baked always taste better. Here are some things to consider once you decide to bake your own wedding cake.

  1. Choose the flavor

Choose a flavor that you love. You don't have to do the traditional fruit cake. You may decide to bake 2 or 3 different flavors. Its your wedding. Bake the cake you would like to eat. Chocolate, mandarin orange, lemon or even kit-kat. Your cake your flavors.

  1. Get the recipe

Test run the recipe before making your actual cake. This just ensures you know how it will turn out.

  1. Spread out the work load

Everyone wants to help. If you have an aunt who bakes ask her to make one tier. Get everyone to help. It makes it more fun that everyone had a part to play.

  1. Decoration

Buy the sugar decorations. Decorate with flowers, or even fresh fruit. Use whats in season. You don't have to decorate with fondant. Keep it fresh with cream and fruit or flowers.

  1. Keep it simple

Don't try and do the fluff and the extras that you get at cake shops. Make it your own.
